This specification defines requirements for validating the hydrogen embrittlement resistance of API 6ACRA grades. It gives guidance on materials selection of these grades for environments in which hydrogen charging is credible. It gives two options for validation. Firstly, as part of qualification of a manufacturing procedure presented as supplemental requirements to ISO 17782/NORSOK M650. Secondly, as part of qualification of a heat lot presented as supplemental requirements to API STD 6ACRA or API SPEC 5CRA/ISO 13680 (Group 5 grades). Materials manufacturers, equipment manufacturers, and equipment users specifying this document can avoid hydrogen embrittlement failures in high strength age-hardened nickel alloys.
