This Report examines the current and emerging applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in metocean, highlighting how AI can enhance data collection, analysis, forecasting, design projects, and operational support. Drawing on literature, surveys, and practitioner interviews, the report illustrates how AI tools such as machine learning, deep learning, and generative models are being applied across the sector.

This Report presents the safety performance of the aviation industry involved in both upstream and downstream operations reported by participating IOGP Member Companies for 2013-2025. It is published as part of the IOGP data series. The data presented have been collected specifically from IOGP Member Companies and are not intended to represent the worldwide oil industry. The principal purposes of this Report are to record the safety performance of helicopter and aeroplane operations of the participating Member Companies in the years 2013-2025, and to provide data that can be used by IOGP Member Companies and others to benchmark their performance. This Report presents overall (worldwide) and regional results against these indicators, and the rates of exposure by aircraft activity performed and type of aircraft flown.

This Report provides a simplified version aimed at field personnel of the methodology described in IOGP Report 813 – Assessment of process safety events that could result in Fatality or Permanent Impairment (FPI) injuries which provides a framework to assess potential for a process safety event to result in FPI consequences.

The Conference attracted high level participation from the key ministries in the Russian Federation and the national and overseas oil and gas industry. Some 180 experts participated in the plenary sessions and in the separate workshops on safety and environmental protection.Two features of the environment workshop were the launch of the Environmental Guidelines for Arctic Operations, jointly developed by the E&P Forum and the World Conservation Union (IUCN), and the presentation by Mr SA Bourtsev, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, on the environmental review system in the Russian Federation. This paper contributed to a better understanding of the environmental regulatory requirements. The report documents the joint Pertamina/E&P Forum seminar on safety and environment. General conclusions and recommendations were: In response to the many health, safety and environmental challenges that the E&P industry faces, the industry should take a proactive approach and ‘be part of the solution’. Cooperation and communication between regulators, operators, contractors and non-government organisations (NGOs) is necessary for sustainable development. Legislation should specify objectives (non-prescriptive). The operators must be fully accountable for achieving their agreed objectives. Operators/contractors should have their own safety and environmental management systems. The principles of objective-based requirements should also be applied to the operator-contractor relationship and should lead to a partnership approach. Objective-based regulations allow standards to be adapted to the sensitivity of the local environment and thereby encourage measures that are fit for purpose. E&P Forum should continue to play a key role in the development of industry guidelines in order to enhance safety and environmental performance in the industry. Whenever possible, this should be done in cooperation with contractors and NGOs. Comprehensive accident statistics are required to promote safety in the industry. The E&P Forum accident statistics standard should be promoted as a worldwide standard for the industry, and industry needs to give their accident data to the Forum for compilation. E&P Forum should consider setting up other databases of safety and environmental data.

In the aftermath of the Brent Spar affair, in mid 1995, European E&P industry produced a co-ordinated response document setting out its position. The document was targeted at the media and interested parties outside the industry. It describes the industry’s position, sets out the options for decommissioning, discusses the complexities of finding the right balance between competing consider-ations, summarises the regulatory framework, and provides some facts to set the issue in perspective. Most importantly, the paper makes a commitment to be more open and transparent, and to enter into dialogue with interested parties.
